TeoChew Nang Cafeteria, located on a corner lot, immediately caught our attention. The shop is thoughtfully decorated, blending traditional cultural elements with a modern twist. As you step inside, you're greeted by tables laden with an array of colorful kuih-muih, and a striking zitar musical instrument proudly displayed at the front.
The tantalizing aroma of food lingered in the air, sparking our curiosity about its source. The menu was impressively extensive, with a variety of choices to suit every palate. My little toddler, however, decided to keep it simple with a comforting plate of dry noodles.
The star of our meal was undoubtedly the TeoChew fried porridge. It was rich in fragrance and delightfully thick, featuring generous chunks of yam and dried shrimp. While the taste was decent, its aroma truly stood out.
Next came the Oh-Nee Teo Chew dessert, and it did not disappoint. The yam was incredibly fragrant, perfectly complemented by the sweetness of the tiny mango bits and the unique texture of the translucent popping spheres. This dessert, though delectable, is best shared with others to avoid becoming overly ‘jelak’.
