Hard Rock Hotel at Desaru, Johor

Yay that we are now in Phase 4 and that means we are allowed to inter-state. Good or bad? Good if you continue to adhere to SOP and bad if you don’t.

Recently, I had a short getaway all the way to the south, and that means away from mummy’s duties too! While the soul needed some break, Mum’s guilt was there. I was just missing my sweetie pie the entire time there. (Please don’t tell Mr. Chee this, he might be disappointed)

Anyway, that’s a story for another day. But today, I want to share my experience staying in Hard Rock, Desaru. Before I headed there, I clearly stated, ‘No corner room’. As far as I remember, that was my only remark to the hotel.

Upon checking in, somehow, or rather, I still got the most corner room, and if you have been to Hard Rock Desaru, you know where the room is — it’s at the far, far end. I requested to change but there wasn’t any room available, it was fully booked.

No choice, I just had to settle with that. Upon entering my room, I was greeted with music on the TV screen that said ‘Welcome, Ms. xx’ — ahh, that was a nice gesture, a very personalized greeting. The room was cold too and that was what I needed especially when you were under the hot sun for several hours.

Put all my stuff and checked the room — one word, I was impressed. Clean, tidy and there’s a balcony. The view wasn’t that amazing as my room was at Level 3 and it was blocked by trees.

Fast forward, to dinner time - I had a good dinner at Nelayan Seafood Desaru Coast which I'm going to share more about in my next post. Standing right in front of my room, I was longing for my dear bed. Feeling tired and a hint of needing to go to the loo, I nearly shouted when the door decided to mess with me at that time. It refused to open!! I asked for help from the receptionist and the manager on duty came in second. He tried using his card too but couldn’t, and that’s where we knew something was wrong with the door system.

In my heart, I started cursing. I just needed to excuse myself to the loo but thinking that the lobby was at another far end, I decided to just hold back. Yes, holding back was quite torturing, lol.

Anyhow, while waiting for my bags to be rescued, I had a good chat with the manager on duty. He made me felt ease and assured while trying to find another room for me. Finally, I was given another room on a higher floor. He walked me there, brought my luggage along, and apologized on behalf of the hotel.

But nah lah, it’s not his fault anyway. The system decided to break down at that time, after all, the hotel couldn’t even operate during the pandemic and that may be the reason why it was faulty.

Once I managed to get into the new room, I hurriedly went to the loo and alas, that was the best moment ever! And yes, I had a good view too.

Overall, Hard Rock Desaru was one of the decent hotels on the Desaru Coast. I had a very good sleep for the 3 nights there, was pampered with a delish breakfast spread, and the massage was superb! On Day 2, I decided to pay a visit to their Rock Spa center and signed up for 90 minutes of Asia Blend Massage. It was the best decision ever.

Ambiance: 4/4

Price: $$$

Food: Variety

Service: Excellent

Verdict: Good hotel for the family as they have a nice water park for the kids
