Over the weekend, we decided to treat ourselves to a nice lunch. Since we were heading to IKEA afterwards, we didn’t mind making the drive to Damansara for a meal at Red Bean Bag. Thankfully, there wasn’t a long queue when we arrived, and we only had to wait around 10–15 minutes for a table. Not too bad for a weekend lunch!
We were seated in the upper loft, where the kids’ play area is located. Naturally, with children around, the atmosphere was lively, filled with laughter, little conversations, and the occasional burst of excitement.
It was certainly not the quietest spot for a meal, but if you’re dining with children, having a play area nearby can be a plus.
Anyway, we were there for the food, so let’s get to what we ordered.
1. RBB House Salad (RM28)
The signature salad turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I wasn’t expecting a salad to leave such a good impression, but the refreshing yuzu dressing made all the difference. The vegetables were fresh, and while the salad was enjoyable overall, the avocado and chicken were my personal favourites. In fact, the portion was generous enough to make a satisfying meal on its own.
2. The Grainy Bunch (RM25)
Since I wasn’t particularly hungry, I decided to order the granola bowl. It looked like a healthy choice, but I was hoping for a little more yoghurt and nuts to balance out the granola. Perhaps it was just my preference, but I would have enjoyed a creamier bowl with more variety in every spoonful.
3. The Kraken (RM47)
My partner went for The Kraken, the squid-ink spaghetti served with grilled whole squid, shimeiji mushroom and spicy cream sauce, which turned out to be a deliciously indulgent choice. It was a unique twist compared with the usual pasta dishes, and every mouthful was satisfying. While my own choices leaned towards the healthier side, this was the dish that brought a little indulgence to our lunch.
Would I return to Red Bean Bag?
Yes, especially when I’m in the mood for something different.
Overall, the signature salad was refreshing and satisfying, the granola bowl was surprisingly filling, and the squid ink spaghetti was a delicious treat. The café also has a kids’ play area in its upper loft, which may be convenient for families dining with young children. Just be prepared for a livelier atmosphere if you sit nearby.
