Alas, I managed to find Makoto Japanese Restaurant located at Sri Hartamas. They are known for serving good and fresh unagi and let me tell you why you should not miss it.
#1 - The eels are ‘live’, not frozen. And live unagi tastes so much different than frozen unagi. When I say live, it doesn’t mean that we eat live, as in raw eels, but they are slaughtered upon each order for diners. You can see the process too, just walk over to the kitchen top area, and you can see them.
#2 - The unagi are charcoal-grilled. Because they are live eels, this cooking method allows one to indulge them in their freshness state.
#3 - You can indulge unagi from its flesh to the bones. Surprisingly, the bones are so crunchy and crispy, just like you eat potato chips. Ah, it would be a perfect snack with a glass of beer.
#4 - You can have a myriad of unagi, from its original taste where it's charcoal-grilled without any sauce to the ones grilled and enveloped in sauce. Both work the best and depending on one's tastebuds, some like them without sauce while some like it. Regardless, you must try them both.
#5 - There are other snacks available like sushi and tempura. Both are good starters while you wait for the unagi to be cooked, or for those who dislike unagi.
Overall, it was a good dining experience. The price is slightly higher, but hey, it's fresh unagi which you can’t get elsewhere, based on my research today. Always remember to make a reservation first before going there. The restaurant is pretty small, so seats are limited.
Other than that, enjoy the meals.
