We were a little hesitant when we first saw Hema Hema Ice Cream. The prices seemed a bit high, but the reviews looked promising. And if there is one thing I don’t mind paying a little more for, it’s good-quality ice cream. So, we decided to give it a try.

One interesting thing about Hema Hema is that the ice cream flavours change every day. And here’s the catch: there is no way to sample the flavours before buying. You simply have to trust your gut and choose the flavours that sound good to you.

I went for the cone with a single scoop of Rocher chocolate....

While my partner opted for a cup with two scoops of strawberry sorbet and matcha.

The shop has comfortable seating at the back, which made it a nice place to sit down and enjoy our ice cream. With some nice music playing in the background, the atmosphere was relaxed and cosy. While we were there, families and friends were catching up over their favourite dessert, giving the place a pleasant neighbourhood feel.

Is Hema Hema Ice Cream Worth Trying?

It may be slightly more expensive than your usual ice cream, but the quality seems to justify the price. The texture of the ice cream was smooth and fine. It wasn’t that sweet, and it was just perfect to have ice cream, especially after a long stroll in Penang, indulging in Penang local food. I also like the fact that the changing flavours give you a reason to come back and see what they have on the menu next.

If you’re looking for ice cream or desserts in Penang, Hema Hema is definitely worth adding to your dessert-hunting list.
