With the opening of LRT 3, more people are exploring Klang without having to drive. As expected, conversations have quickly shifted to one question: where should you eat near each LRT station? One restaurant that keeps appearing on the list is Kuang Fong Restaurant, located just a short walk from LRT Pasar Klang.

I’ve visited Kuang Fong Restaurant before the launch of LRT 3, and back then, getting a table was never an issue. This time, however, it was a completely different story. Even before the restaurant opened at 5.00 pm, a queue had already formed outside. Fortunately, we arrived early enough to secure a table.

Walking into Kuang Fong Restaurant feels like dining in a traditional family restaurant. There’s nothing fancy about the setting, but that’s part of its charm. The food focuses on familiar, comforting flavours that remind you of home-cooked Chinese meals.

One thing we noticed, though, was that the portions were relatively small. We suspect the restaurant caters mainly to families and elderly diners, where lighter portions are preferred. Here’s what we ordered.

1. Sweet and Sour Pork

A classic Chinese favourite with a good balance of sweetness and tanginess. The pork remained crispy despite the sauce.

2. Signature Homemade Tofu

One of the restaurant’s popular dishes. The tofu was silky smooth with a savoury sauce that paired perfectly with rice.

3. Claypot Curry Vegetables

Comforting and mildly spicy, this dish complemented the rest of the meal well without overpowering the other flavours.

4. Ginger Spring Onion Fish Slices

The fish was fresh and tender, while the fragrant ginger and spring onions enhanced the natural sweetness of the fish.

5. Fried Tapioca Noodles

This is arguably the dish Kuang Fong Restaurant is best known for. Unlike regular fried noodles, the tapioca noodles have a chewier texture that absorbs the savoury seasoning beautifully. If you’re visiting for the first time, this is definitely the one dish you shouldn’t miss.

Overall, Kuang Fong Restaurant serves honest, comforting Chinese food with flavours that feel warm and familiar rather than overly rich or heavily seasoned. The only drawback for us was the portion size, which felt a little small for the price. That said, the quality of the food was consistently good, and it’s easy to understand why the restaurant has become even more popular since the opening of LRT 3.

Would I return?

Probably not regularly. However, I would gladly come back whenever I’m craving their fried tapioca noodles, which remain one of the restaurant’s standout dishes.

1. Do I need a reservation?

Yes, especially after the opening of LRT 3. The restaurant has become much busier, so it’s best to make a reservation. If you don’t have one, arrive before 5.00 pm when the restaurant opens.

2. Is parking available?

Parking is limited to street parking, so availability depends on your luck. Taking the LRT to Pasar Klang may actually be the more convenient option.
