Lai Po Heen at Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur

It had been a while since I last indulged in a good hotel dining experience. But this time, I finally gave in after hearing countless recommendations about the delicious spread at Lai Po Heen.

I’ve visited a few times before, but most of the time, I forgot to take photos—unless the dishes were truly exceptional. After several trips, I’ve compiled a list of must-order dishes that are absolutely worth trying.

1. Peking Duck

Wow, this dish was truly outstanding! The thin, crispy duck skin, paired with slices of cucumber, spring onion, and sweet bean sauce, all wrapped in a delicate popiah skin, was simply divine. Every bite was an explosion of flavors, and I savored every moment.

2. Duck Fried Rice

After enjoying the crispy skin, the remaining duck meat was cooked together with a fragrant plate of rice, leading to the creation of Duck Fried Rice. The dish was infused with wok hei, and trust me, I wished I had more room in my stomach to devour every last bite. It was so delicious that leaving any behind felt like a crime!

3. Salted Egg Fish Skin

A fantastic appetizer to start with while waiting for the main dishes.

4. Vegetables

The vegetable broth was naturally sweet and incredibly comforting—I loved it!

5. Prawn Dish

Succulent and flavorful, this dish was another highlight of the meal.

To wrap up the meal, one simply must order the durian pancake, especially if you’re a durian lover. Don’t hold back—skip the tiny bites and just pop the whole thing into your mouth. Let the rich durian flavor unfold, allowing its taste and aroma to linger, sending waves of pure bliss to your brain. Trust me, it’ll be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made!
