Netflix: Culinary Class Wars (who will win?)

Watching Culinary Wars on Netflix ignites my passion for cooking and experimenting with new dishes. The lineup of chefs—both seasoned veterans and rising stars is awe-inspiring. I can’t believe how addictive this reality show is; each episode pulls me in deeper. I felt a pang of sadness when some of my favorite chefs were eliminated, but hey, that’s the nature of competition. In the end, only one will emerge victorious.

Despite the eliminations, several chefs have caught my eye. I've even compiled a list of their restaurants to visit when I next travel to Korea.

1. Chef Edward Lee

His unique twist of combining Western and Korean cuisines is fascinating. He takes every piece of feedback seriously and adjusts his dishes accordingly. For instance, when his steak was criticized for being tough, he immediately tweaked his cooking and presentation style, wowing the diners in the process. A chef whom I look up to.

2. Chef Jung Ji Sun

As the first celebrity chef specializing in Chinese cuisine, her presence is magnetic. Her presentation skills are mesmerizing, and her dishes like deep-fried siraegi basi with black vinegar and mala cream shrimp dim sum are top-notch. However, I felt she could have chosen a better dish than the Songshu Guiyi, which placed her in the 8th ranking during the consolation round. Fret not, there’s one more round to go and hopefully, she does well.

3. Triple Star

A young talent with exceptional skills and experience in fine dining. His leadership, cooking style, and techniques are impressive. Every dish he creates is a work of art. He is a calm, demeanor, and focuses on dishing his dish to perfection. From the first episode of cooking lobster with pepper sauce to leading his team to success during the team match certainly worth the praise.

4. Cooking Maniac

An interesting personality and wants to prove his worth. His innovative Ramyeon Pad Thai, made using convenience store ingredients, was a steal.

5. Self-Made Chef

Although I was sad to see him leave, his selflessness in sacrificing himself for his team during the restaurant contest was commendable. His Chinese-style cooking is outstanding from the first episode of creating eight treasure meatballs to the Chinese-style meat wrap with pepper steak and radish salad in the team match; I'm just in love with his dishes.

6. Chef Choi Hyun Seok

A well-known celebrity chef with exceptional leadership and culinary skills. This can be seen during the team match on how he led his team to success with just a simple dish yet unique, flounder seaweed soup. Also, I find it endearing that he admitted his mistake of forgetting to add garlic to his pasta vongole during the consolation round. What a miss!

The competition is heating up, with so many talented chefs vying for the top spot. Who will win this culinary showdown? I can’t wait for the next episodes to find out. Stay tuned!
