Tucked away in Kuchai Lama, 65 Ondo Bakery has quietly built a name for itself among bakery lovers in Kuala Lumpur. With its Japanese-inspired breads and constantly changing selection, it's the kind of place that draws a crowd even without heavy marketing.
I didn't plan to buy much.. but somehow walked out spending close to RM90 including drinks. That alone should tell you something.
So, what to order at 65 Ondo Bakery?
If it's your first visit, don't just grab randomly - some items stand out more than others.
1. Signature Croissant Egg Tarts
Visually appealing and popular, but slightly on the oily side. Still worty trying if you are curious, but not something I would repurchase.
2. Seaweed Chicken Floss Puff
This was easily one of the highlights. Flaky on the outside, soft inside, and packed with umami flavour from the chicken floss and seaweed combination. A solid choice if you want something savoury.
3. Sponge Cake
Soft and fluffy—I've used these words a lot in this post because they perfectly describe the bread here.
4. Butter Rice Cake
Don't let the name confuse you, this isn't your typical rice cake. It has a chewy, slightly mochi-like texture with a rich buttery flavour. Simple, but surprisingly addictive.
What to Skip?
1. Mochi Pudding
Unfortunately, this wasn’t for me. I found it a bit odd.
2. Mango Pudding Cake
This one looked promising, but didn't quite deliver. The flavour felt a bit artificial and lacked the freshness you'd expect. With so many better options available, this is one you can skip.
Will I return?
Yes—to get my favorite bread and, perhaps, try something new. Overall, 65 Ondo Bakery shines in its soft, flufy bread texture with a wide variety of options. However, the prices can add up quickly and not every item is a hit.
Ambient: 4/5
Price: $$$ (reasonable)
Food: Bread and pastries
Service: 3.5/5
Verdict: Best for Japanese soft buns and pastries. Must try Seaweed Chicken Floss Puff. Skip Mango pudding cake. And worth visiting once.
Key Notes
1. Is 65 Ondo Bakery worth the hype?
It's worty trying, especially if you enjoy Japanese-style breads. Just be selectie with what you pick.
2. What is 65 Ondo Bakery famous for?
Their soft buns and creative flavours, particularly savoruty items like chicken floss pastries.
3. How much should you budget?
Around RM20 - RM40 per person, depending on how much you try.
