There are restaurants famous for traditional Nanyang cuisine like Mee Siam, Nasi Lemak, and Signature Egg Tarts, but Oriental Kopi is one of the relatively few restaurants that has made its name in Malaysia in just three years. The first outlet was opened in Kuala Lumpur in 2021 and the buzz was real, with people queuing especially on the weekends. Ever since then, it has mushroomed from one place to another, and making its presence in their airport too.
Recently, they put their footprints in IOI Mall, Putrajaya. Located close to Lotus on the Lower Ground floor facing the MBG fruits stall, the strong green branding of this restaurant never fails to gain the crowd's attention. My eyes were diligently looking around, mesmerized by the modern yet traditional interior design, while my nose was sniffing at the smell of the freshly baked egg tarts.
What do I eat at Oriental Kopi?
Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah
You would see this on every table and from that moment, you know that it is a must to order. The big chicken thigh covering half of the rice has already put up a good impression of this plate of nasi lemak. I used my fork to give a slight poke to the chicken and wow, they are crispy. The chicken is also juicy and succulent. As for the sambal, personally, it gives a slightly sweet taste, and it is not that spicy for me. Bear in mind that I’m a person who can take spicy food.
Chicken Rice
Another favorite of mine! You can choose your favorite chicken parts but my go-to is the chicken thigh. The chicken is soft and tender, best of all, it comes with a lot of taugeh (bean sprouts).
Butter and Kaya Toast
Somehow, the sight of a thick butter enveloped with two slices of bread felt so satisfying. Remember to eat when it’s served, and don’t wait. It doesn’t taste that good when it’s cold.
Will I go there again?
I will. There’s no reason for me to say no to this restaurant. The local food there satisfies our tastebuds and even, children love them too.
