We never really consider visiting Switzerland unless our wallets are deep enough, do we? I was fortunate to spend some time there, not because my wallet allowed it, but thankfully, I have relatives there.
Let me help you, my dear readers, by sharing essential tips on what to visit and how to save some money so you can make the most of your Swiss adventure.
1. Bring Your Own Food
Hear me out—I'm not saying you shouldn't eat out, but it will cost you a lot. A simple plate of pasta can easily cost 30 CHF, equivalent to around RM 150. What I did was pack some oats, chocolates, biscuits, and protein bars. This way, my breakfast was sorted every day, saving me quite a bit.
2. Cook Every Day
Grocery shopping became my favorite activity. Stores like Coop and Migros have such fresh vegetables and meat! Preparing your own meals not only saves money but also lets you enjoy fresh, local produce.
3. Walk, Walk, Walk
Forget about taking cabs—they will cost you a fortune. Walking allows you to discover and explore more amidst the beautiful landscapes at every corner of Switzerland.
4. Plan Your Route Well
Transportation in Switzerland can be pricey, even with the train. While the service from trains to buses is superb, it comes at a high cost. For example, a one-way trip from Wildegg (near Zurich) to Zermatt can be quite expensive. Planning your routes well can help avoid wasting money on unnecessary trips to the same canton.
After that, just enjoy your holiday! I visited during winter, and it was perfect—cool and lovely. Will I go again? Yes, if my wallet allows, hehe.
