Pork Noodles at Kedai Kopi Melanian, Kota Kinabalu: A Local Favorite with a Twist!

Every time I return to Kota Kinabalu, there’s one dish I always crave—pork noodles. There’s something uniquely tender about the pork slices here, and I’ve learned that locals have a special technique for preparing them. By meticulously washing and cleaning the pork—removing tendons and blood vessels—they achieve that signature softness that sets Sabah’s pork apart.

This time, I visited Kedai Kopi Melanian, a well-known pork noodle shop located in Sinsuran Square. Fair warning: parking in this area can be a bit of a nightmare, so plan accordingly.

While the shop is famous for its pork noodles, the menu can feel overwhelming at first glance. You’ll need a few minutes to figure out your order, but the pressure is real—the server stands by your table waiting for you to decide. The base is pork noodles, but the variety of add-ons (pork slices, meatballs, innards, etc.) makes the ordering process a bit chaotic.

Feeling the heat, I stuck to my usual: pork slices and meatballs. My friend, on the other hand, went all in with every topping available.

Was it good? Absolutely. The noodles had a rich, savory flavor—possibly thanks to a secret dark sauce that ties everything together. The broth was comforting and flavorful, and I found myself sipping it down to the very last spoon.

Will I Return?
Most likely. While I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Kedai Kopi Melanian, I’m also curious to explore other pork noodle spots in Kota Kinabalu. But this one definitely earns a spot on my go-to list.
