Top 5 Must-Try Food in Ipoh

It’s been a while since I have been to Ipoh, and many have changed in Ipoh. The place that I used to frequent or the food that I used to love whenever I was there was no longer there. It could be due to MCO.

Nevertheless, I managed to get my cravings satisfied from main meals to dessert.

1. Chicken Rice at Restaurant Tauge Ayam Lou Wong

Lou Wong Chicken Rice

Lou Wong is a classic spot for chicken rice in Ipoh. While it may be commercialized, their steamed, silky chicken and juicy bean sprouts still make for a satisfying plate. Just be prepared for the heat during lunchtime – a portable fan is a great idea! Click HERE to view more.

2. Ipoh Mua Chee at Hong Kee Mah Chee

Ipoh Mua Chee

Mua Chee (sticky glutinous rice balls coated with crushed peanuts) is a delightful snack. However, it’s a shame that the portions are shrinking, but thankfully, the flavors remain a winner.

3. Ipoh Hor Fun at Restaurant Thean Chun

Ipoh Hor Fun

How can one not have Ipoh Hor Fun when you are in Ipoh? I had it at Restaurant Thean Chun and this is so far the best I had. The rich broth that combines chicken and prawn flavors truly elevates the dish. Click HERE to view more.

4. Tau Fu Fah at Lai Kee Soya Bean

Tau Fu Fah

Funny Mountain Soya is what people usually go to for tau fu fah, but I like it elsewhere which is at Lai Kee Soya Bean. Their tau fu fah is super smooth and the ginger syrup version is intriguing enough, that it catches my attention whenever I visit Ipoh.

5. Caramel Pudding at Restaurant Thean Chun

A sweet treat to beat the heat! Soft and silky caramel pudding is just perfect for those sunny days. Click HERE to view more.

Enjoy travelling to Ipoh and let’s continue to explore our local gem.
