When you visit Hong Kong Disneyland, you simply can’t miss the chance to explore the vibrant city of Hong Kong. I was incredibly fortunate to have a friend there who became our personal guide.
We indulged in an array of mouthwatering dishes, which completely changed my misconception that Hong Kong food isn’t delicious. We experienced every mode of transportation the city has to offer—train, bus, ding ding (a charming electric tram), and even boats. On average, we walked around 18,000 steps a day, truly immersing ourselves in the local culture. The best part was traveling like a local, exploring iconic destinations that completely stole my heart.
For first-time visitors, here’s my recommended itinerary: Spend two to three days at Hong Kong Disneyland and dedicate another three days to exploring the city itself. This way, you’ll enjoy the most memorable experiences.
Now that I’ve shared my Disneyland adventure, let me guide you through some must-visit spots in Hong Kong.
1. The Peak
This is undeniably a must-visit for tourists. While it’s not cheap and tends to be crowded, the experience is worth it. I visited on a weekday, and it was bustling with both locals and tourists. At the top, we navigated the building, stopping occasionally to browse souvenirs and restaurants. Finally, we reached the viewing area, and the night view was absolutely breathtaking. It’s no wonder Hong Kong’s nightscape is renowned as one of the best in the world. While it was difficult to take a good photo due to the crowds, the view alone was unforgettable.
2. The Longest Escalator in Central
Came across this in the Running Man variety show, I had to check out this famous escalator. To my surprise, despite all the hype, it didn’t quite match my expectations. How exactly does it earn the title of the “longest escalator”? It left me wondering…
3. West Kowloon Cultural District
This vast area is perfect for a leisurely stroll, especially during pleasant weather. It’s an enormous space where you can sit back and admire the striking Hong Kong skyline with its towering skyscrapers.
4. Former Victoria Prison Compound
Situated in Central, this historic site is worth exploring. The prison itself is surprisingly large and impressively clean. Walking through its halls was a fascinating and eye-opening experience.
5. Central Pier with Aqualuna
This is the starting point for boarding the Aqualuna ship, which takes you on a scenic tour around Hong Kong. It was a cold, tranquil ride, and with few passengers on board, we practically had the whole ship to ourselves. The journey offered endless opportunities to capture stunning photos of the city’s skyline.
Now that you’ve discovered some amazing spots to visit in Hong Kong, stay tuned for my next post on must-try foods in the city!
