Kam Heong Kopitiam, Petaling Jaya - This Hidden Kopitiam is Worth The Drive

If you’ve been following my food hunts lately, you’ll know I’m currently on a serious mission: finding the best kopitiam food around Klang Valley.

And yes… even if it means driving all the way to Petaling Jaya.

Known for its incredible hawker scene, Petaling Jaya never disappoints when it comes to good food. This particular kopitiam, Kam Heong Kopitiam is always buzzing with energy especially in the morning where tables are packed, the queue is constant, and finding a seat feels like winning the lottery.

If you’re lucky, you’ll get a table immediately. If not… be prepared to wait. But trust me—it’s worth it.

With so many stalls to choose from, I went in with a list of recommendations. After trying quite a few, here are my top must-order dishes you shouldn’t miss.

1.Shrimp Fried Rice (RM10)

Often dubbed the “Din Tai Fung-style fried rice”, this plate is an absolute crowd favourite—and for good reason.

Each grain of rice is beautifully separated, light, and fluffy, yet packed with intense wok hei. The aroma hits you first, and every bite delivers that perfect balance of savoury goodness.

No surprise there’s always a queue. Expect to wait up to 30 minutes—but once you taste it, you’ll understand why.

2. Wantan Mee (RM10)

I didn’t expect to fall in love with this, but I did.

The noodles are springy with a nice bite, and the char siu adds a sweet, smoky touch that ties everything together. That said, consistency can be a bit hit-or-miss—on some days, the noodles lean slightly on the harder side.

Still, when it’s good, it’s really good.

3. Prawn Mee (RM10)

Another solid favourite.

You get to choose between yellow noodles or mihun—or better yet, mix both. The broth is rich, aromatic, and full of depth, delivering that comforting, umami-packed punch prawn mee lovers crave.

Simple, satisfying, and done right.

4. Nyonya Laksa (RM10)

This one easily earns a spot as one of my top picks.

The broth is rich, creamy, and fragrant, with just the right balance of spice and coconut. Add in fresh cockles, and every spoonful becomes incredibly satisfying. It’s the kind of dish you’ll keep thinking about long after the meal.

5. Char Kuey Teow

Somehow, the char kuey teow was slightly lacking in wok-hei. And the chilli was a bit too much that it literally covered up the taste of char kuey teow.

6. Yong Tao Foo

This was kind of good too - just choose your favorite yong tao foo and have it as snacks while waiting for your main dish.

Overall, this is the kind of place you come back to—not just for the food, but for the whole experience. The noise, the crowd, the anticipation… it all adds to the charm.

If you’re a fan of authentic hawker food, this spot in Petaling Jaya deserves a place on your list.
