I’m usually not a fan of dining in hotels, but my first experience at Lai Po Heen completely changed my perception. This time, while craving Chinese cuisine in Kuala Lumpur and looking for a quiet, comfortable dining spot, I decided to try Celestial Court at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur.
There’s something about this part of Kuala Lumpur that I truly enjoy. The neighborhood feels lively, with rows of shops just outside the hotel, making the area far from boring. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by the friendly and attentive staff — a great first impression that immediately set the tone for the meal.
1. Must-Try: Peking Duck
As I browsed through the menu, the first thing that caught my eye was the Peking Duck. In fact, I’ve visited Celestial Court twice, and both times I ordered this signature dish. You really can’t go wrong with a well-roasted Peking duck. The crispy skin, paired with the savoury sauce and fresh greens, was absolutely satisfying — one serving is never enough. If you’re searching for Peking Duck in Kuala Lumpur, this is definitely a place worth considering.
2. Scallops Fried Rice: Pricey but Worth It
The scallops fried rice was another standout dish. Yes, it’s on the pricier side — possibly one of the most expensive fried rice dishes — but it was heavenly. Packed with rich wok hei and generously topped with scallops, this dish was a hit with both kids and adults alike.
3. Halal Dim Sum with Wok Hei
We also tried the fried radish cake, and I must say, the dim sum selection here is quite impressive. What makes it even better is that Celestial Court serves halal dim sum, yet still manages to deliver that much-loved wok her flavour.
4. Unique Dishes Worth Mentioning
Some dishes stood out for their uniqueness, particularly the tofu. Interestingly, every bite had a slight sour note. Before assuming it was spoiled, we checked with the staff and learned that the tofu is homemade and intentionally fermented, resulting in its subtle sourness — a bold and unexpected flavour profile.
Then there was the Yee Mee. Honestly, it didn’t look like Yee Mee at all. Despite being labeled as their signature noodles, it didn’t quite win us over. Between the two, the fried rice clearly stole the show.
Other Dishes We Tried
We also ordered a few standard dishes such as:
Orange fried chicken
Chicken Siew Mai
Broccoli with mushroom and tofu
These were decent but fairly ordinary compared to the highlights mentioned above.
Will I Return?
Probably — especially to explore more of their dim sum offerings. If you’re looking for a halal Chinese restaurant in Kuala Lumpur with a refined hotel setting, attentive service, and a few standout signature dishes, Celestial Court at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur is certainly worth a visit.
