Going on a trip is always exciting, but travelling with a group of close friends makes the experience even more memorable. This time, I had the opportunity to drive to Malacca with a group of fellow foodies to explore the city’s famous local dishes.
Melaka is well known for its rich food culture, especially dishes influenced by Peranakan and local Malaysian flavours. During our trip, we explored many food spots around the city, and here are some highlights that you definitely should not miss when visiting Malacca City.
1. Nyonya Laksa
Believe it or not, the Nyonya Laksa served at Lwee Poh Piah was absolutely delicious. The fragrance and rich aroma immediately caught my attention and quickly won over my heart — and my stomach too. The broth was flavorful and comforting, making it a memorable bowl of laksa during our Melaka food adventure.

2. Nyonya Food
If you are visiting Malacca City, trying authentic Nyonya cuisine is a must. During our trip, I visited both Heritage Flavours and The Kam Cheng. Personally, I found that Heritage Flavours offered better tasting dishes and a wider variety of options compared to The Kam Cheng.

3. Satay Celup
Satay Celup is one of the most iconic dishes in Malacca City. Both locals and tourists enjoy this unique dining experience, especially for dinner or supper. It involves dipping skewers of meat, seafood, and vegetables into a bubbling pot of rich peanut satay sauce. It is a fun and interactive meal that perfectly represents the city’s vibrant food culture.

4. Chicken Rice Ball
Another famous dish you must try in Melaka is the chicken rice ball.
During our trip, I tried a couple of different stalls, but the one that stood out the most was JJ Chicken Rice Ball. The flavors were satisfying, and the chicken rice balls were nicely textured, making it one of my personal highlights.

Other Foods We Tried
Of course, we also tried other local snacks such as Nyonya kuih, steamed cockles, and various street foods around Malacca City.
While they were enjoyable, they did not stand out enough for me to give them a special shout-out here.
That said, if you have better recommendations for food in Malacca City, feel free to drop me a message. I would love to discover and explore more hidden food gems on my next trip!
Happy reading and happy food exploring!
