Italian Food at Gusto Food and Wine, Kota Kinabalu

First, don’t be deceived by the photos I took. When I went, it was nighttime, so the photos turned out a bit dark. However, the images don’t do justice to the quality of the food. In fact, this is some of the best Italian food I’ve found in Kota Kinabalu. It’s all about quality, and it’s just nice when the chef himself attends to the diners, recommending dishes. The price is on the higher side, but believe me, it’s worth it! Every dish is just perfect, from Rigatoni Carbonara to pizza, spaghetti aglio olio prawns, and tiramisu.

Calling Seafood Lovers to this Must-Visit Seafood Restaurant in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah - New Gaya Restaurant

Man, I should have discovered this place earlier. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and every dish exceeded my expectations. From garlic fried rice to fish, pumpkin and prawns

Tenom Noodles Delight at Restaurant Tenom Mee, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

What sets Tenom Noodles apart? Well, it all begins with the fundamental noodle base. The dish is simple yet satisfying, allowing the ingredients to shine. On my recent visit, I customized my plate by adding an array of meats - char siew (barbequed pork) and lean meat - resulting in a protein-packed and utterly fulfilling meal.

Crispy Tacos at CC by Mel

In search of a cozy spot to unwind and reflect amidst my morning routine, I stumbled upon a CC by Mel, despite the challenge of finding parking. Unsure where to have dinner but opting for something soul-warming on rainy days? Fear not, the answer lies at Ippudo, a fantastic choice for a bowl of delicious ramen. Their menu offers a variety of options to satisfy your ramen cravings. But first, let’s talk about ramen. Since I’m there for ramen, I opt for their Ippudo Kuro Special. This bowl of ramen features thick, chewy noodles accompanied by soft-boiled eggs, slices of BBQ pork belly, black fungus, seaweed, bean sprouts, spicy blended miso paste, and fragrant garlic oil with black pepper. The smoky flavour and rich aroma make it a delightful choice.

A Cozy Café Discovery at Broom Artisan Bakery & Kitchen, Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya

After a satisfying dinner, my craving for something sweet led me to a nearby cafe, Broom at Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya. Its exterior was aesthetically pleasing, and as I stepped inside, I was greeted by a cozy and comfortable ambiance. The wall behind the cashier counter showcased artfully arranged chunks of sourdough bread, immediately catching my attention. On the counter, an array of pastries beckoned to me. I exercised control really well and chose just two: 1. Salted Egg Croissant 2. Hazelnut Chocolate Tart

Top 5 Must Try Food in Ipoh

It’s been a while since I have been to Ipoh, and many have changed in Ipoh. The place I used to frequent or the food I used to love whenever I was there was no longer there. It could be due to MCO. Nevertheless, I managed to get my cravings satisfied from main meals to dessert. From chicken rice to caramel pudding, tau fu fah, mua chee, and Ipoh Hor Fun.

Not your typical Penang food but you must try them when you are in Penang

After our Hatyai expedition, we embarked on a delightful journey to Penang, eager to savor its unique culinary offerings. Here are three delectable dishes that you absolutely must try in Penang: 1. Penang Char Koay Kak 2. Duck Meat Kuey Teow Thng 3. Peanut Biscuits

Indulging in Culinary Delights at Gu Jin, Sheraton Kuching: A Yang Chow Fried Rice Revelation

Picture this: the elegant ambiance of the Sheraton Hotel in Kuching, Malaysia. Amidst the hushed conversations and soft lighting, there lies a hidden gem - the Chinese restaurant, Gu Jin. Within its four walls was an unexpected discovery with none other than the Yang Chow Fried Rice. Yes, I know you guys will raise your eyebrows when I say this. But trust me, this dish defies expectations. As the fragrant aroma wafted across the room, my taste buds stirred in anticipation. The first bite was a revelation. Silence settled over the table as we savored each mouthful. Then, like a harmonious chorus, exclamations of ‘wow’ erupted. The fried rice was more than good. It was so appetizing.

Maria's Steakhouse, 1Powerhouse: A Culinary Delight

If you are a steak enthusiast, Maria’s Steakhouse needs no introduction. This establishment has become a go-to spot for those seeking a satisfying steak experience. While it’s true that a premium steak can easily cost hundreds of ringgit for a 200gm portion, the type of beef cut and beef plays a significant role in determining the price. Opting for Wagyu, for instance, will certainly elevate the cost. However, there are moments when indulgence is warranted - whether you are celebrating small victories or special occasions anniversaries, and birthdays. And here’s the exciting news: Maria Steakhouse offers a set menu for two priced at just RM290. This delightful set includes a salad, soup, main dish, and dessert.

Porky Time at Bak Kut Teh Three Hundred, Setia Alam

As a Klang girl, I firmly believe you can never separate me from my beloved BaKutTeh. So, when I was on the food adventure in Setia Alam, I headed straight to 300 BaKuTeh. It was only four of us, but we ordered a feast - pork galore! You wouldn’t imagine what we ordered and to our surprise, we finished them all. The porky quota was hit immediately once we savored the last sip of the broth. By the end of our indulgence, we were so stuffed that dinner was out of the question.

Exploring Heritage Kopitiam in Taman Berkeley, Klang

While driving around Taman Berkeley after a visit to the morning market, I stumbled upon a local gem named Heritage Kopitiam. The place was bustling in the morning, with people from all walks of life starting their day with a wholesome breakfast. The menu isn’t extensive, but it offers quick fixes for breakfast. If you are in the mood for something simple, you can enjoy classic options like toast bread and half-boiled eggs. However, if you are looking for heartier fare, consider trying the Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah or the flavorful Prawn Noodles.

Only Peach Strudels in Kenny Hills Bakers?? You are going to miss out a lot!

You have probably heard of Kenny Hills Bakers. The homegrown brand, Kenny Hills Bakers has been around since 2014. Starting as a local bakery in the KL neighborhood, they are best known for their handmade pastries and organic bread. Over time, Kenny Hills Bakers has become one of the favorite brunch spots by many and has thousands of loyal customers. You can see it evidently through the opening of this brand in multiple areas around Klang Valley. And one of the recent footprints is at The Exchange TRX, Kuala Lumpur. When you ask around, the first thing people say about Kenny Hills Bakers is their peach strudels. Is it only that? I decided to storm one of their largest outlets at IOI City Mall, Putrajaya where it is deemed to have exclusive dishes that other outlets may not have.

Popular restaurant, Oriental Kopi opens in IOI Putrajaya

There are restaurants famous for traditional Nanyang cuisine like Mee Siam, Nasi Lemak, and Signature Egg Tarts, but Oriental Kopi is one of the relatively few restaurants that has made its name in Malaysia in just three years. The first outlet was opened in Kuala Lumpur in 2021 and the buzz was real, with people queuing especially on the weekends. Ever since then, it has mushroomed from one place to another, and making its presence in their airport too. Recently, they put their footprints in IOI Mall, Putrajaya. Located close to Lotus on the Lower Ground floor facing the MBG fruits stall, the strong green branding of this restaurant never fails to gain the crowd's attention. My eyes were diligently looking around, mesmerized by the modern yet traditional interior design, while my nose was sniffing at the smell of the freshly baked egg tarts.

Craving for some authentic Chinese food in Kuala Lumpur? Restaurant Sek Yuen might be the place for you

As one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Kuala Lumpur serving Cantonese dishes, Restaurant Sek Yuen is a place that you should at least visit once. Like it or not, it really depends on one’s palate. Truth be told, many still love them, especially the older generation as they retain the traditional dishes and tastes while the restaurant is so homely, with friendly workers. No wonder, the restaurant has been ballooning, not just one outlet but several of them along Jalan Pudu.

#Ramen is calling and I must goo...

#MenyaMusashi is a well-known Japanese eatery that has won the heart of many when comes to a good ramen. There’s always queue outside the restaurant, the ones in #oneutama, and thankfully, I was slightly earlier, skipping the lunch crowd. The ramen is springy, the broth is flavorful, the ramen egg is cooked in perfection, and the pork belly melts in your mouth. While the chicken karaage, they are juicy, succulent and decent portion for one pax. Took a bite and true enough, it never disappoints me.

Want your dreams to come true? Head over to Come True Cafe, Starhill KL

Finding happiness is the journey of a lifetime, but you can first get it by visiting Come True Café, located within the Eslite Spectrum in Starhill Kuala Lumpur. For those who do not know, Eslite Spectrum is a hub for bookworms, shoppers, and those who crave peace and calm. Elite Spectrum is big, hosting cafes and restaurants, and one of them is Come True Cafe, which I'll share more in a bit, local fashion and accessories, and has a library of books on fiction, psychology, business, philosophy, and so on. The food served in Come True Cafe is pretty interesting - a mix of different dishes, catering to adventurous diners who opt to try something new and those who prefer their comfort food such as Japanese Grilled Eel with Strawberry Pizza. Also, don't forget their signature Souffle which takes about 20 minutes waiting time.

Love #unagi? Makoto Japanese Restaurant is the place for you!

Alas, I managed to find Makoto Japanese Restaurant located at Sri Hartamas. They are known for serving good and fresh unagi and let me tell you why you should not miss it. #1 - The eels are ‘live’, not frozen. #2 - The unagi are charcoal-grilled. #3 - You can indulge unagi from its flesh to the bones. #4 - You can have a myriad of unagi. #5 - There are other snacks available like sushi and tempura.

Top 5 Must Eat in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The past two months were when I decided to discover the gems in my very own nation, Malaysia. And that means I have to start in this beautiful city that everyone knows, Kuala Lumpur, I chanced upon a lot of great food and places throughout my staycation in Kuala Lumpur. And these are the top 5 must-try food whenever you are in Kuala Lumpur. 1. Mun Wah Hokkien Mee 2. Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice 3. Sek Yuen Restaurant 4. Come True Cafe at Starhill 5. TG’s Bistro

Succulent, Juicy Claypot Chicken Rice in Kuala Lumpur

What better way to celebrate the month of festivities than by putting on a tourist cap and marveling around the beautiful KL city and getting your cravings fixed with delicious food. This time, follow me to this popular Claypot Chicken Rice in Kuala Lumpur. Located off Jalan Yew, the parking is pretty easy and the shop is easy to find. You will be greeted with rows of clay pots being fired up upon your entry to the shop. They serve different kinds of claypot chicken rice and one good tip for you is to order the Chicken Drumstick Claypot Rice. Chicken drumsticks were so tender and juicy, probably that is because they cooked them using charcoal. Waiting time is about 20 mins and you can order some snacks first like fried homemade tofu and pork stomach pepper soup. They are all delicious!

Lemon Tree in The House!

Have you heard of The Lemon Tree? This cafe took social media by storm last year when it opened its doors in April. Coming to a year now, I thought it would make sense to pay a visit and experience them on my own. There was still some queue, but the wait wasn’t that long. Upon stepping in, the ambiance is “fresh”, and nicely decorated with pockets of lemon trees, but I must admit the place is small. Nevertheless, it has a nice ambiance that creates cheerful vibes, which is perfect for leisure meals or gatherings with family and friends.

Reasonable priced Omakase at Hagi Japanese Cuisine, TTDI

Want to try Omakase but worried about the price? I have heard so much about how expensive Omakase can be - it can be priced from RM500 to a thousand. Recently, I chanced upon Hagi Japanese Cuisine in TTDI and opted for Omakase Natsu Course (RM380). What does the Omakase Natsu Course have to offer? From Zensai (Seasonal Appetizer), Chawanmushi, Otsukuri (Seasonal Sashimi, 3 types), Yakimono (Grilled Dish), Nigiri (Nigiri Sushi, 7 types), Makimono (Sushi Roll), Shirumono (Soup of the day) and Homemade Dessert

Have Nyonya Feast at Heritage Flavours, Malacca

Situated in a shophouse in the Jonker Street food paradise, Heritage Flavours is one of the must-go restaurants in Malacca. From the front, the restaurant may look basic, but once you step in, you will be wowed by the interior, decked with antiques and decorative items, reminiscing the “The Little Nyonya” dramas, that I used to watch when I was young. Every corner of the restaurant makes good Instagrammable photos, so, don’t miss the chance to take some nice photos when you are there.

Crave for Signature Watermelon Cake? Head over to Naj and Belle in Bangsar

Within a span of two weeks, I visited this cafe twice. All these are thanks to their signature Watermelon Cake. When I visited the first time, the cake was sold out so I was determined to visit the cafe again. Naj and Belle serve a variety from Malaysian local delights to western. You name it and you will get it.

Mak Chee's Authentic Wanton Noodle

Wanton noodle, one of the staple foods that we go for since young, besides bat kut teh. Usually, we have it at hawker stall but this time, let’s try it at Mak’s Chee Authentic Wanton Noodle. It can’t be bad right, given that it has more than one outlet in Klang Valley and most of the outlets are in shopping malls.

The Street Crab and Lala at Seremban

When it comes to rainy day, some would opt for hotpot while some would go for BBQ. Whereas for me, the cravings for seafood, in particular crabs, are very strong this time hence, we decided to drive all the way to The Street Crab & Lala Restaurant in Seremban to have the crabs and lala.

Five Guys at Genting Highlands

Renowned for its fresh, juicy burger that is cooked to perfection and all kind(s) of toppings could be added based on your preferences between the fresh-baked buns, how can you say no to Five Guys? Comes with a variety of choices for its toppings, which you can mix and match – from pickles, tomatoes, mushrooms, jalapenos, lettuce, etc. But if you are unsure what to choose, just go with all-in (which follows their recommendation that has 9 toppings).

The Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden at Genting Highlands

When you are in Genting Highlands, it seems like it is a must to try The Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden. I was hesitant at the beginning, like come on, it is just fish and chips. However, Harry Ramsden is a world-famous brand in the UK, known for its fish and chips so, I decided to give it a try.

Kanbe Ramen at 163 Retail Park, Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur

Despite launching in early 2021, Kanbe Ramen still gains so much craze and splash by being one of the must-try ramens in KL. The queue starts before the restaurant opens its doors. We reached about 11am (the time when the restaurant opens), and still, we got to queue for another 45 minutes before we were ushered to our seats. Like a typical Japanese restaurant, it is small, packed, and noisy. They have an open kitchen; hence, I find it a bit warm and stuffy especially when there are so many people in a restaurant. The menu is rather simple yet complicated as you can customize the bowl of noodles based on your liking such as flavors, toppings, soup base, and, etc. While there are only two choices of noodles which are either ramen or tsukemen (also known as ‘dipping ramen’), I find it rather hard to choose. Both look good and I ended up going with ramen.

Have You Tried the Egg Tarts in Foo Hing Dim Sum, Puchong?

Many have been praising the dim sum in Foo Hing, especially their egg tarts which is a must to try. Well, I tried both the Macau Style Egg Tarts as well as the classic Egg Tarts, and the verdict is, take a guess. Hehe. Overall, I would say the dim sum spread is pretty good, however, we got quite ‘jelak’ easily, as some of the dishes share the same fillings.

Paradise Dynasty, Paradigm Mall

Woohoo, where would you bring your friends whom you have not met for years for lunch? Kopitiam? Or a nice Chinese restaurant that allows you to talk for hours? Instantly, this place rang the bell. Located in Paradigm Mall, Paradise Dynasty offers a wide selection of Chinese cuisine, including their famous 8 uniquely flavored Xiao Long Bao. This is not my first time at Paradise Dynasty and I vow that their food quality is top-notch. Although it is slightly pricey, I think it’s worthwhile, given that the ambiance is pretty comfortable plus, the food is really good lah.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot, Kuala Lumpur

Now that we can go out without any restrictions, except wearing face masks at all times, many have started to stroll along with the city and dine in their favorite restaurants. With many precautions taken by the individuals as well as restaurants, plus the cravings for hotpot, I went to Xiao Long Kan in Midvalley recently.

Feng Wang Fu (FWF) Hotpot at Fahrenheit88, Kuala Lumpur

Nothing beats the fun of having hotpot with your girlfriends while having long conversations about everything and anything. That was a fun night, for sure, albeit that we got to wait for an hour, but it is certainly worth it, given that it is strategically located in the Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur, in specific, at the side of Fahrenheit 88.

Tossing Yee Sang at OUG Jade Restaurant, Kuala Lumpur

First reunion dinner at Restaurant OUG Jade, Kuala Lumpur. And yee sang is just the best dish to have for reunion, as it also symbolizes prosperity. Besides yee sang, we had fish, vegetables, tofu and pork.

Yuet Gong Hor (Moonlight Kuey Teow) at Kedai Kopi dan Makanan Hong Lai, Setapak

When you had the chance to wear a tourist hat in your capital city, you should make use of it. This rings true when I had my recent staycation in Kuala Lumpur. Instantly, I turned on my foodie hat and seized the opportunity to explore and discover the food gem. One of the places that managed to steal my attention was Kedai Kopi Dan Makanan Hong Lai at Setapak. Known for its fiery charcoal Yuet Gong Hor (Moonlight Kuey Teow) and Hokkien Mee, I decided to pay a visit on a Monday night, for my dinner.

South Sea Seafood, Shah Alam

It's the last day of 2021 and it's definitely a year that is filled with lots of ups and downs. Regardless, one should wrap the year with a good note by at least having a feast today and pat your shoulders that you have survived and have achieved so many milestones. One of the places that you can call for celebration is South Sea Seafood at Shah Alam. There are many types of seafood, from crabs to lobsters, clams, squids.. and you name it.

Italian Pizza Feast with Bottega

Okay, let’s admit it! As much as we want to stay sane during the lockdown, sometimes the emotion takes precedence. The calling for pizza is so strong these days that we decided to indulge in some Italian pizzas; delivered all the way from Bukit Bintang. And this is one of the best decisions ever. No regret and complaints about the food quality except that it’s a little cold. Just got to reheat it and voila, you can have an Italian feast at home, minus the whole ambiance. Just Netflix and good food will make a perfect day. We had Formaggiosa, Pecanminosa, Picante and Cheeseboard from Bottega Cafe.

Dim Sum Feast at Home with Wong’s Menu

To begin with, I had a dim sum feast recently. Yay! Thanks to Wong’s Menu, I was well fed with lots of assortments but among all, these are the few which I wanted to share with you because they are so damn gooooddddd. 1. HK Style Char Siew Pau 2. Classic Siew Mai 3. Golden Sesame Ball

Have you tried Aglio Olio Crispy Salmon with Angel Hair in Naughty Nuri, SS15 Courtyard?

Naughty Nuri is not new to many. Originally started in Ubud, Naughty Nuri has been making its footprints in Malaysia with four outlets. And they are known for their signature BBQ spare ribs. I used to visit Naughty Nuri in the earlier days but I was left with disappointment due to the small serving size. This time, we decided to visit Naughty Nuri again, hoping that there would be slight improvement. And alas, we were right! Must-try the Aglio Olio Crispy Pan-Seared Salmon with Angel Hair and Creamy Bacon and Roast ‘Siew Yoke’ with Fettucine when you are there.

Authentic Japanese Food at Jyu Raku Restaurant, Subang Jaya

The name that kept popping out during our search was no other than Jyu Raku restaurant. Located at SS15 which is opposite Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Jyu Raku is the epitome of a contemporary restaurant combined with Japanese heritage. While they do serve a myriad of Japanese food from sashimi to teppanyaki, sushi, menrui (noodles), shokuji (rice), what stole our attention was Wagyu (Japanese beef) as well as its affordable Bento lunch set that comes with so much of varieties.

Try Hokkien Braised Pork with Alkaline Cake and Fried Brinjal at Restaurant Hua Xing, Sungei Way

Did you know that Hokkien Mee is not the only dishes that is popular among the Hokkien? It is more than that. Fried Tapioca Noodles and Hokkien Braised Pork are part of the Hokkien dishes’ family too. Proudly born and raised as a Hokkien, I decided to visit Restaurant Hua Xing to savor the authentic Hokkien dishes. And here are the must-try Hokkien dishes - braised pork with alkaline cake, fried hokkien mee, fried potato noodles, fried tapioca noodles, fried brinjals, and etc.

Homemade Chai Kueh at Chai Bao Chium, Pandamaran Klang

A hidden gem in Pandamaran Klang that sells very, very delicious chai kueh. Located in the new village of Pandamaran Klang, Chai Bao Chium has a history of 60 years making chai kueh. Unlike selling the chai kueh in a commercial lot, this is prepared and cooked in their house. Satisfy your Xiao Long Bao cravings at the Original Din Tai Fung, Dong Men Station, Taiwan

Nothing beats the excitement of having to taste the signature xiao long bat at the original Din Tai Fung restaurant which opened in 1949. Peng Heong Hakka Paikut, Klang tops the list

I salivated a little while simultaneously having my fork ready to take the paikut (after taking its photo). It was tender and flavourful while having a strong aromatic aftertaste which I enjoyed the most. Then, I took the second piece and I was immediately disappointed. The second piece was hard and unfresh – it’s just not like the first piece that I had. Thankfully, before my experience got ruined, the third piece went well. As the pork ribs come with a strong flavor, I suggest having it with a bowl of rice – even we did order one although we were pretty full!
